4 stars Davide RONFETTO music teacher for 15 years, playing alongside John MACALUSO (SYMPHONY X, LABRIE, MALMSTEEN) in RUSTFIELD. 3 years of personal research to release this 1st album after metal work elsewhere. Melancholic modern prog rock from which the mood starts with atmospheres worthy of a PORCUPINE TREE, of a RADIOHEAD for the chiseled melodies. He is assisted by big names such as Colin from PORCUPINE TREE, Heather from AYREON and MOSTLY AUTUMN on an RPI that only has the name.

"Night City Lights" starts on a melancholy and fruity tune just right, full of romanticism; driving synth break and rhythmic chorus for oxymoron genre fusion; meditative picture between darkness and the birth of the colors of dawn, ideal for landing, rock pop in the background. "Absent" darker title, intimate, introspective flute, piano arpeggio to let the notes and the atmosphere flow; one feels the northern cold, perhaps descending from the Dolomites; a bit of ANATHEMA 3rd period for a cold, hypnotic crescendo, the guitar wants to be languorous, it's well done without making waves. "Under The Rain" with the porcupine bass and a frenzied rhythm bordering on grunge, punk, dirty and heavy, with an idyllic soft voice in opposition; captivating title with a beautiful guitar finale in break. "Four Notes Of Shame" just for the intro where we dive into the cozy and delicate atmosphere of the 70s, then that of the 90s; acoustic piano arpeggio and flute come to vibrate at the bottom of our anvils on fine melody; the break with overdriven metal riff in the middle and the keyboard launch the PORCUPINE TREE sound for those who would like to have an ersatz view; a jazzy-crazy sax comes to wreak havoc.

"Love Moan" intimate guitar and piano arpeggio, voice that can recall that of KING CRIMSON; dark, melodic and melancholic title, from which the musical beauty emerges even stronger, title that crumbles and makes you forget time, stamped prog. "The Thin Man" with its brightened sound, soft choir choirs, a warm Mellotron and a superb Gilmourian guitar solo, the finale with wind and four-key wooden piano reinforces intimacy. "Witch" hard rock riff at the start, the first of the album which denotes in fact, quickly countered by a Lewis CARROLL atmosphere; an aggressive punky rock for fun interspersed with bucolic passages, singular title, unique in itself, keyboard à la GENESIS for the typical break, disturbing but rich in emotion; another Hackettian solo before a heavy finale, Steve WILSON should love it. "Hidden Glade" already completes the album, another arpeggio where the romantic melody borders on the spleen; calm, serene, gentle, warm, efficient like a Han UIL, a Kristoffer GILDENLOW; Heather comes to give voice to potentiate the poignant atmosphere, risking to melt the last proguous grump; once again it is monolithic but explosive, sweet but piquant, the Mellotron driving the musical high point in the company of a final solo by Davide.

Davide RONFETTO has released a fresh opus with proven spleen, easy to listen to, perhaps too precisely; recreational melancholy to help get out of winter, contemplative modern prog rock, warm in its coldness, moving in its melodies; album where the bass gives the rhythm, the atmosphere, a musical parchment of Davide's own spirit deviating from the strictly heavy universe; a dark journal album with bright colors after this long pandemic that has affected the whole world. A musically dangerous album because it makes you forget time, a very good point.
