Childwood biography
Childwood is a cinematic progressive modern jazz ensemble based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The band was started by composer, arranger and guitarist Alex Vansalen. The band's 2020 debut album, Opalessence, featured the line-up of singer Isabel Bermejo, violinist Burcu Ramazanoglu, saxophonist Wietse Voermans, Alessio Bruno on double bass and drummer Ruud Voesten.

Opalessence features a strong smoky lounge undercurrent with frequent avant-garde passages, unorthodox key changes and cinematic ambience. The sound is simultaneously laid back while being deeply sinister. The music is punctuated by the graceful and adventurous vocal work of Isabel Bermejo.
