UUUU biography
A British experimental rock supergroup based in London, UUUU consist of former Wire guitarists Graham Lewis (of Dome and FITTED) and Matthew Simms (of Slows and also of FITTED) along with synthesist and producer Timothy Lewis, better known as Thighpaulsandra (formerly of Coil and Spiritualized), and drummer Valentina Magaletti (of Vanishing Twin, Tomaga and the Can Project). With Thighpaulsandra having toured as Wire's keyboardist in 2013 and Magaletti's other band Tomaga as their occasional openers, Lewis suggested to Simms of bringing the four players together for an unrehearsed recording session.

Via Austrian label Editions Mego, UUUU released a full-length and EP in 2017 and 2018 respectively, both self-titled, with material whittled down from three days of improvisations at Thighpaulsandra's studio. UUUU play a varied and imaginative style of 21st-century krautrock, blending familiar motorik tropes along with free jazz, electroacoustic drones and psychedelic guitarwork, with evident traces of Wire's post-punk pop and Coil's surrealism in the band's sonic potpourri. The quartet made their live debut with a handful of performances in early 2018.
