Screaming Gypsy Bandits biography
Screaming Gypsy Bandits was a legendary Bloomington, Indiana based band from the early 1970s that went virtually unnoticed outside of its local area in its heyday. The band featured Mark Bingham, Caroline Peyton, Bruce Anderson and Rick Lazar and only released a sole album during its time as a band but has since found posthumous material emerging. The album In The Eye was released on BRBQ Records in 1972 and showcased the band's propensity for mellow psychedelic folk but the 2009 archival Back To Doghead revealed a wilder side of the band that found raucous jazzy gypsy folk blending seamlessly with Zappa / Beefheart inspired quirkiness and humor. In retrospect the Screaming Gypsy Bandits has been regarded as something totally unique in the history of early 70s prog by delivering live performances that were a quirky blend of jazz, folk, psych rock, prog and absurdist theater.
