Simon Laulund biography
Copenhagen, Denmark, based bassist, drummer and composer but first and foremost guitarist, Simon Laulund Mogensen grew up in Odense where he started playing the drums at the age of 9 and did so for 4-5 years until the music video game Guitar Hero spawned his interest in picking up the guitar. This guided him to classic rock such as Blue Oyster Cult, Jimi Hendrix and not the least Guns N' Roses and further led him to explore his dad's record collection which included Black Sabbath and the like. However, it was Joe Satriani's album "Crystal Planet" that convinced him that the guitar was his main instrument and being now 14 years old he bought his first guitar which he taught himself to play with the help of Youtube video lessons and he also began to play in his first band having his neighbors on bass and drums. Around the same time, Simon and a drummer friend also formed the band Director's Cut that played mainly Metallica covers. Two years later, in high school, he formed his first original music band Fantom Panthers, which came third in the local finals of the Emergenza Festival.

For a year he attended Assens School of Music and their talent programme and after high school he went to the music conservatory preschool, MBK before enrolling at the Music Conservatory of Odense where he gained his Bachelors degree in 2018 and his Masters degree in music and science of education in 2021. During this time, he was introduced to musical theory and jazz which he uses in his own song writing as evidenced on his 2020 debut album "Chronicles Of Time" (and two singles released the previous year) followed by "Persona: Elements" in 2023. During his masters, he and two other conservatory students formed progressive metal band Press To Enter, releasing two singles in 2022 and expected to release a full length album in 2023.

Simon sees himself as a prog musician combining metal and hard rock with jazzy chords and weird time signatures. In the process he explores polyrhythms, the lydian scale and the techniques of three-part guitar, thumbing and chord-melody as means to achieve his music. Guitar influences include Joe Satriani, Tobin Abasi, Steve Vai and Tim Christensen among others. Besides being a performing musician he also teaches guitar at the Music Institute Of Copenhagen and at Herlev School of Music.
