The Cortex Shift biography
The Cortex Shift (known in its earliest days as Ellipsis) is an Australian jazz fusion band from the Adelaide Hills (belonging, as the band points out, to traditional Kaurna land) founded in 2012 by guitarist Kyle Opie, keyboardist Rohan Pullen, bassist Edward Bittner and drummer Max Tulysewski, all of whom previously played in various innovative rock bands around southern Australia including Misfits Of Sythia and Superdose Gangway. The Cortex Shift is their most jazz-oriented project although it has since its inception evolved into a more eclectic and more rock-based sound palette, particularly after the departure of Pullen in 2017 and his subsequent replacement by Ciara Ferguson and second guitarist Sam Morris. As of 2023 they have released four studio albums and have played live in support of Snarky Puppy and Stereolab.
