Velva Room biography
VELVA ROOM was born in 2004 as a one-man's cult to the divinity of mind and reality. In 2007 it became an artistic project created by guitarist Anton CERDA. Inspired by psychedelia, surrealism, progressive rock and pop music, he composed and gave concept to 'EYES WIDE OPEN TO THE CLOUDLESS SKY': VELVA ROOM'S first studio album. It was initially performed as a solo act while travelling the south of Mexico, but later it was decided to base the project in the beautiful city of Guadalajara. The 14-track album involved 14 musicians, over 40 instruments and a three-year recording process aiming to create a truly 45-minute psychedelic journey. The recordings started in early 2008 with a growing group of musicians that performed for the first time as a three-piece band (drummer Saul PADILLA, keyboardist Laura MACÍAS and Anton CERDA on guitars, bass and vocals) by the end of that year. In early 2010 the band consisted on eight musicians: the original trio added Vicco GONZÁLEZ on lead guitars, Luis NOVELO (a.k.a. Lobo) on bass, Felipe ANTON on cello, Alberto TORRES on saxophone and Ernesto Nirl CANO on percussion. The album was finished in 2010 but the band disintegrated, leaving only two members of that period: front-man Anton (guitar, bass, piano and vocals) and multi-instrumentalist Vicco (lead guitar, bass, ukulele and keyboards, among others). The album was never released, but a few singles were published on Bandcamp.

Following that period, in 2010 Anton began to play music with Her Shamanic Majesty Nathalia Romo de Vivar a.k.a. NATY, in a two piece rock band called TURBINA CORYMBOSA, until soon enough she became the official drummer of Velva Room by early 2011, performing mostly new material that Anton had worked on during the recording of 'EYES WIDE OPEN' adding up Vicco's extraordinaire arrangement skills. During 2011 the band explored and performed new songs with SUAVE AS HELL's Apache O'RASPI on bass and keyboards, but only for a short term represented in the beautiful psych-folk collaboration 'PASOS'.

Soon after Apache's departure to Mexico City, POLAR DREAM'S headmaster OBY was part of the band for a year and participated in both the 'PREV-U' recordings as well as the entire production of 'U'. By the end of 2011 the band played at Amnesty International?s 50th Anniversary Concert in Guadalajara and performed as the opening act for APPARAT BAND, NORTEC COLLECTIVE and CUBENX. The band performed at Captive Sessions, delivering two songs from th...
