Progressive Biography

I grew up constantly surrounded by music related stuff. My mother, of course, was sold to the Beatles' England 70's pop and I come from a familiy of fine piano and guitar players. THE BEATLES of course, are on top of my list with a lot of bands like R.E.M., THE TRAGICALLY HIP, THELONIOUS MONK, THE CURE, OASIS, SLOAN, THE BREEDERS, THE SMITHS, THE POLICE, PAVEMENT, OINGO BOINGO, TAME IMPALA, QUEENSR?CHE, MGMT, STEELY DAN, SAGA and ULTRAVOX mainly.

From age 4 (discovered Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper) I got addicted to music. And I mean ADDICTED. All the information I could get on any artists, I got it.

Thanks to my tv addicted dad, who bought a huge old fashioned satellite dish in '89, MTV always had a huge place in our hearts. I stayed up to date to mostly rock and pop genres throughout the 90's. But I've always been tempted by keyboard-oriented, longer pieces of music and time changes.

Well, I started (as a good canadian) with all-star Rush who gave me a great chance to get acquainted with art rock. I had every RUSH album since age 16 and so on, I grabbed knowledge from here and there. I did also realize in that era that listening to this kind a music makes you a potential member of the geek factory.

But my real craving for progressive rock started when I got married ; when my father-in-law told me that he saw GENTLE GIANT many times at the Laval's University (in 74 and 75). He told me many times stories how good they were and I purchased many GG albums immediately. Then I got more and more curious to find something to feed my brain who seemed to grow insatiable.

I try to keep my mind as open as possible, but my preferences tends to go in the same directions. I'm not pretending to be a good reviewer, I judge by how the music makes me feel, nothing always technical. I do, on the other hand, take this whole 'sacred' progressive rock very lightly.

My favorite band is changing every 2 weeks litteraly, but I do confess that Gentle Giant is one serious name.

So tell me my opinions stinks, I'll tell you: " I knew it before you did. "

Dream Team:
Lindsey Buckingham---Guitars, Vocals and boyish good looks
Sting---Vocals, Bass, general fitness and Vocals
Dave Grohl---Humility, caffeine and Drums
Tony Banks---Intolerance, Organ and Keyboards
