3 stars "3 Songs for Rut" is a 3 track EP released by Norwegian hard rock act Motorpsycho. The EP was originally released in 1992 in a very limited number of copies on 12" vinyl. Two out of the the three tracks on EP are also featured on the "8 Soothing Songs for Rut (1992)" compilation album, which was the first time they were released on CD. "Some Real Mind[%*!#]" which isn´t featured on "8 Soothing Songs for Rut (1992)" are featured on a couple of various artists compilations. So it has seen a CD release too. Just not on a Motorpsycho only CD release.

Like all the earliest releases by Motorpsycho the tracks on "3 Songs for Rut" are heavily influenced by late eighties Soundgarden. In a slightly more pale version, but the music on the EP is still enjoyable and delivered with passion and therefore worth a listen or two. The sound production is raw and organic and while that can certainly be a charm, I´d say in this case the music could probably have prospered from a more professional sound.

"3 Songs for Rut" is a collector´s item and most people are probably satisfied with having access to two of the three tracks if they own "8 Soothing Songs for Rut (1992)", but judging on the quality of the release alone I´d say a 2.5 - 3 star (55%) rating is warranted.
