4 stars ALITHIA are claiming to stand for a new movement in music, which they name 'Astral Space Core'. This is a very ambitious attitude, right? Well, the psych/space character is definitely manifested here, that's what I can state beforehand. This Australian quartet has recorded two EP's so far - only, one or two may say - not much according to a relatively long band history which started in 2004. Anyway, when thinking in quality terms, there's such a great musicianship and compositional skills to state, I have to say.

At least considering this effort named 'A Realm O'Null' I can't believe that they are a nearly unknown band. Here we are faced with nearly 25 touching minutes, not any wasted moment to regret. An intensive affair where almost everything sounds rounded. Well, occasionally there's an alternative rock touch to smell - the songs are way too tricky though overall, far away from a common structure. While starting and hiding in the Shadows this is highly atmospheric, John Rousvanis' vocals are very expressive and his guitar presence is spacey all the way through.

If you oughta expect a bunch of synths additionally, Danny Constantino appears not that genre typical on the other hand with his art rock tinged piano style, but yet effective. And then WTFJ means a 'slippery' affair thematically, alongside with the title track this composition is bursting with strength, entertaining for every moment. ALITHIA are working on the debut album now and I'm waiting with curiosity - empathically hoping that they are able to reach for such a top efficiency again - 4.5 stars.
