Creature is the one-man progressive black metal project of multi-instrumentalist Raphaël Fournier, based in Brittany, France. Composed, arranged and mixed entirely by Fournier, his first two independently released records, 2018's Inquiétudes and 2019's Contes Funèbres, caught the attention of I, Voidhanger Records, which signed Creature and issued his third album, Ex Cathedra, in 2020. For Ex Cathedra, Fournier was accompanied by guest musicians Perrine Neulet on flute, violinist Maria Grigoryeva and singer Alexis Bertran.

Creature's eclectic and ornately orchestrated black metal will be of interest to fans of Mirrorthrone, Le Grand Guignol, Sigh, Thy Catafalque and Arcturus.

"Inquiétudes" (2018)

"Contes Funèbres" (2019)

"Ex Cathedra" (2020)

Forwarded to the PM team.

It's a strange coincidence right now that there are three entries in our "new" list and that the names start with A, B, C.  I notice strange things like that....

My pleasure, always happy to hear. The project hasn't entirely clicked with me myself, but each record improves upon the last and there are at least a few songs or moments I've enjoyed on all three.

Thanks as always, Mike (and as with Verlies I originally thought they belonged in Tech/Extreme before my gut changed subgenres at the last moment). Just wanted to point out in the new bio that the second mention of Fournier's name reads as "FOURNEIR."

They’re one of those bands that could fit quite easily in either subgenre. I voted yes for Exp/Post, and the other two votes were yes for tech/ext. So it was a unanimous yes, and a majority for tech/ext.
