I've been checking out a band called Red Orchid recently.
![]() You can find their album here. It should mainly appeal to fans of Heavy Prog/Neo/Nu.
I hear bits of Rush and PT in there and track 5, Far From Home, has a nice eclectic, exotic feel with its sitar and tabla. Give 'em a listen will ya? ![]() Edited by Tony R - January 05 2010 at 13:11 |

Since they are our neighbours, I'll gladly give them a listen. The use of Indian instruments sounds particularly interesting. Who knows, we might even get to catch them live.

HeavyProg will try to check them, though that site doesn't want to give me the free downloads

hi r.o. -- HeavyProg did listen to your material and after much consideration decided not to add the band. There is a chance you could be evaluated by another team [possibly Crossover or Eclectic]

Sure, Thanks for taking time to check it out. By any chance would another team listen to it? From my understanding, the music belongs to the broader prog category unless I have lost any musical sense that I have over the years :). Now I am not all that familiar with the sub-genre classifications as folks are here, so I may not be the best person to make that suggestion.

I have downloaded the album, but work and private matters have inhibited me from checking it out yet. Will do so shortly, and take the band into eval in one of the teams I'm associated with if I find it suitable for any of them :-)

I'd suggest it for Crossover (maybe Neo would consider it too as that category's parameters have changed somewhat, I believe). I don't think it's well-suited to Eclectic (the mainstream-sounding aspect puts it in the Crossover-side of the old Art Rock sub, I believe).

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.
