they were rejected more than once by previous progressive metal teams.

Personally, I believe they are a great band, but progressive? IDK.

They are my # 2 favorite metal band and # 3 rock band altogether. I've tried 9379281 times to make people realize that at least Tuonela and Elegy could be here, but I've failed, even when I was the senior member in the PMT. I've realized is a lost cause. But they could be here in prog-related.

Exactly this, except for the 9379281 tries that is.
And I would also add Am Universum to that list, many Amorphis fans don't like it but I consider it their most space-proggy, be it less "progressive" then the preceding two.

Besides, at the end of the 90s, they were always referred to as progressive metal, everywhere.

I'll chack these other albums to see if they can change my opinion about them. So far I have Elegy, 1k Lakes and Silent Waters, none of which I find 100% prog. Prog leaning, definitely, but nothing but that.

Great, Tuonela and Am Universum get definitely more prog (space-rock) vibes going, but the thing about Elegy is to see it in it's context, it doesn't sound spectacularly prog today but 15 years ago this was a milestone.

I can imagine. That is the problem with borderline releases. Some prog BR prog bands were rejected mostle because they weren't as proggy as their European peers, but were absolutely revolutionary in the way of mixing Brazilian music and rock. Some of them are very influential to this day.

My love of this band stops at 'tales from the thousand lakes', which is their absolute masterpiece. I don't really like the orientation of the later albums.
Up to 'tales from the thousand lakes', they were melodic death metal. Then they turned, erm pop ? (elegy sounded pop to my ears, the first time I heard it, I don't know the albums that followed).
