LOL at that video, I can't remember the last time I saw a music video that entertained me so much! The song is actually very medolic by modern Radiohead stadards, I like it. Definetly going to be paying attention to their new album once it comes out

The album's bloody awful. This new version of "True Love Waits" is terrible. Much of this album is just Yorke and a piano. Where's the rest of the band? Most of the tracks are so down tempo, each song blurs into the other. I can't imagine I'll be singing any of these in the shower. The art and craft of songwriting seems to have been lost by this once-great band.

^I haven't heard it yet but King Of Limbs was a major let down to me...I pretty much gave up on them.

My verdict at first listen: 2 stars.
The only remarkable song is "Burn the Witch". The other tracks are rather flat, minimalistic and do not contain many variations. Do not expect to find neither the melancholic rock of "Ok Computer", nor the experimentations of "Kid A" or even the darkness of "Hail to the Thief" here. The new Radiohead is a little flavorless. As jude111 pointed out, the overall gives the impression Thom Yorke is alone on this one. A deception. |

Masterful album. This was a big team effort, with a lot of great work from each band member layering into wonderful songs.
If you don't hear that on first listen, just give it another go. "Burn The Witch" and "Identikit" are the only uptempo songs, so that may be a problem for some, but there's not a lack of instruments, band members, or ideas. I'd go so far as to say that this is in a few ways a culmination of 21st century Radiohead.

Seems to be getting good ratings so far. Haven't heard Daydreaming but I do like Burn the Witch so maybe I'll like it. Waiting until it pops up on Spotify or something.

It may be that I just don't get this phase Thom and the band have entered into. I was just watching Youtube clips of "Bloom," which apparently many fans love. I listened to various versions which people debate is the best. But I just don't get the song. I don't hear a melody or anything special or likeable about it. Alot of this new album reminds me of that track from King of Limbs. And I found Amok all but unlistenable, which fans also apparently loved...

Listened to it once so far. I liked it, but it didn't wow me. That said, I listened to it because "omg the new Radiohead album was out today," but I was more in the mood for something noisy and loud. "Ful Stop" was an early highlight.
I like King of Limbs, but it was a little cold and felt more like an EP. I didn't like Amok.

I don't think it has a single weak track but it doesn't have a single great track either. It all feels like a blob of slow, dark and melancholic songs. But it is beautiful. Daydreaming sets the mood perfectly and it kind of feels like you are floating in a moon shaped pool. Still, the track I will choose out of the album, after 4-5 listens, will be Burn the Witch. Radiohead for me is In Rainbows and Hail to the Thief and that song comes closer to that style.
4/5 so far. |

I've been digging it too. It also casts The King of Limbs in a different light. TKOL has always been to me "the newest Radiohead album," but having a lusher, more organic album this time makes me appreciate the afrobeat-esque groove layering of TKOL with its B-sides too. There's a reason why it's my band's drummer's favorite Radiohead album.

Jonny has just done an interview with NPR where he revealed some of what went into the creation of AMSP, very interesting stuff.
