Tough poll, Iccy. Love them both. They even progressed in the same manner, and at the same pace - from very creative 'Progressive' rock, to 'Progressive' pop. My favourite are the first few albums by each band, but some of the later albums have great material on them too. I probably listen to Roxy more often so I guess I'll vote RM.

Love both, but ELO put me in a good mood - which is something I need a lot of these days. So, ELO it is !

Early '70s-mid-'70s: Roxy>ELO Late '70s-early '80s: both sucked. For me, Roxy had 3 fabulous albums: For Your Pleasure, Country Life and Siren. ELO had Eldorado and then several single great songs off other albums before they went totally pop and I ignored them.

Definitely Roxy Music. ELO are nice but really only Eldorado is incredible. On the other hand many of Roxy's albums are incredible and over the whole of both catalogs, Roxy kicks ELO's @ss!

Roxy! Can't believe this is even close. I liked ELO's first three, but stuff like New World Record and Eldorado don't live up to the hype. Not bad, but not in the same league as any Roxy album.
