At the moment I'm undecided between Tales from the Punchbowl and Green Naugahyde.
I know Sailing the Seas of Cheese and Pork Soda are the most iconic ones, but for whatever reason I never got into them as a whole even though they have some brilliant songs. Same with Frizzle Fry, although I like that third best. The Brown Album is ruined by production and too many mediocre songs. Antipop feels uninspired to me and it's no wonder the band took a long break after it. Chocolate Factory I haven't heard and The Desaturating Seven felt too uneven and centered on the story for me.
What do you think? |

Pork Soda! I was shocked by just how out there and dissonant that record gets, Desaturating Seven is a great one too! Full blown prog coming from the Primus camp.

Pork Soda must be one of the most out there platinum selling albums ever! "My Name Is Mud" and "DMV" are great songs but other than those I don't really get a grip of it.
I really need to listen to Desaturating Seven a few more times. There's quite a bit of Rush influence there I think.

Know number 1, 3, 4, 6, and 8 (1 and 8 not very well). Still feel entitled to vote and my vote goes to ... Tales from the Punchbowl. I've got to say that Primus is one of these bands for whom I have more, let's say, "theoretical appreciation". I like their approach and material a lot as far as I know it but am rarely in the mood of playing them.

I hear you. It's the same for me with many bands, but not Primus though.

The choice is between cheese and pork. Since no one has voted for it yet, I'll pick the former.

I've honestly never heard of them. I thought Primus was a camping stove.

![]() Here's a good live video of them, concentrating on the more rocking hit songs though:
And here's a more psychedelic music video: |

A big enough rock to hide a Primus camping stove under, apparently.

Tales from the Punchbowl is my favorite with Seas of Cheese coming in 2nd and Frizzle Fry 3rd. Honestly, I never heard one that I dislike (though The Brown Album is the low man on the totem pole) and I know them quite well (after all, that's where the name TCat comes from - Tommy the Cat). Time for Paul to leave his camping stove behind the rock where it will rust away as he familiarizes himself with the real and demented Primus and all other things Les Claypool.

That's correct! In addition to Primus, I'll highly recommend Claypool/Lennon Delirium. Must revisit Les' other projects asap. Flying Frog Brigade, Sausage, Oysterhead... were there others as well?

Yes. Accept Paul is sort of forgetting that I posted Have A Cigar for him as done by Primus and he commented that he liked it. .... Oh and I had to vote for Sailing the Seas of Cheese.

'Punchbowl' I guess, the only one I own....have heard 'Cheese' also....a lot of their music reminds me of KC- Discipline era filtered through some weird future drug.

I'm wondering now if their first album is a reference to frizzle frying something on a Primus stove.

"Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains" is also great (with Buckethead). There is also "Duo de Twang" which is his take on country music, also excellent, and don't forget "Electric Apricot", "Les Claypool's Holy Mackerel", "Blind Illusion" and "Beanpole".
