Ok guys I try to help you when ever I can, so now i could use some help.

who are the cats they are the best known for their blas beats and amazing double pedal work.

Dont give me Thomas lang and Virgil,  I want the guys who do it for a living.  I have no clue.  A buddy of mine gave me a dvd of all these shredders but I lost it.  Also any instructional vids out on blass beats.

I want to work that into my bag of tricks.  One thing I have noticed about the guys that do it well and correctly is they can't play much else but i jsut want to learn that.  It probably took them so many years to perfect it they didnt have time to learn funk and latin and stuff.  i think i could have fun with it

little help if you dont mind

thanks much

Virgil Donati doesn't drum for a living? If so, I'm curious to know about his day job ...

I think the best blast beat drummers I've ever heard I found in grindcore or deathgrind.  Anders Jakobson (ex-Nasum, now in Coldworker, I think) is very good.  If you watch him live, it  looks as ithough he hardly even breaks a sweat!  Also, Kai Hahto (ex-Rotten Sound, now in Wintersun) is also really impressive.  Actually, he's generally impressive.  One of those drummer than when you watch the band, you can't take your eyes off him.

I know Kai is a professional drummer, in that he teaches, and is also a session drummer.  Fully sponsored by I forget who, too. (sorry).

Want more?  I done many, many , many years with my head buried deep in death metal and grind.

Oh he's also one of my favourites.  Has been for a looooong time.  I tend to rate Dave Lombardo higher than I used to after I saw him with Fantômas (that was awesome!).

I also dig John Merryman (Cephalic Carnage...also did an album for Estradasphere)....which reminds me...have you checked out www.sickdrummer.com???

The first three that come to my mind :

Hellhammer aka Axel VonBlomberg : Arcturus, Mayhem, The Kovenant, Thorns, Winds, Dimmu Borgir, etc...  A Pillar in the norwegian black metal scene,  Fast and furious, yet creative.

Nicholas Barker : Cradle of Filth, Old Man's Child, Dimmu Borgir.  Probably the most tight, competent, fast, furious, technical AND creative black metal drummer

The drummer in Emperor is also a shred god (I forgot his name though).

Lang and Donati most certainly drum for a living.

Hoglan, while an excellent drummer, doesn't really fit the bill, IMO.

My suggestions:

Flo Mounier from Cryptopsy, super fast and all over the place. A bit messy, but I think it's a welcome alternative to sometimes overprecise death metal drummers.

Alex Hernandez from Immolation. Furious and quite original, especially on "Close to a World Below". His predecessor (I've forgotten his name, duh) is awesome, as well.

Derek Roddy - really cool drumming with Hate Eternal.

EDIT: Emperor's drummer is called Trym.

Love both of them!!

I'd have to say that when it comes to ANYTHING drum related, and I do mean anything, I doubt anyone can make my jaw drop open more than Morgan Ågren.

Didn't mention him because it's not as if he has a regular band that likes to blast beat.  But of course, he can do it and rule at it while he's doing it.

Ah, forgot about the double pedal part, my bad. Yes, Hoglan definitely fits the bill in this respect.

I'd like to tentatively add Hannes Grossman (Necrophagist) to my recommendations - IF he can get to within 90% of his studio drum parts in concert, he is unbelievable.

Definitely, when it comes to BEAST drummers (speed, stunning double pedal, etc etc), we're talking about Brutal Death Metal!:

Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy)
Max Kolesne (Krisiun, extremely brutal death metal from Brazil)

Those two are amazing! Clap
