Amazingly, I would place my Top 6 albums from this poll in the same order. Thumbs Up

L'apocalypse of de Animaux. A journey into sweet oblivion. Don't hold back...let it flow, you know.

fair point although The Dragon might also fit the bill.

This is a tremendous and diverse list of albums that shows what an incredible musician Vangelis is , and he's still going strong.

Heaven and Hell is maybe his best 'prog' album.
Beauborg his best experimental album?
L'Apocalypse Des Animaux is best ambient perhaps
Opera Sauvage perhaps his best 'New Age'

I went for China. It has a bit of everything!

I'd have to say Heaven and Hell, though Albedo comes really close.  There are a lot of great Vangelis albums in this period.

Odes - Irene Papas is simply the best vocalist Vangelis ever worked with.

Hear! Hear! Rosetta and From Juno to Jupiter show the Van man still has it.

Albedo 0.39 has to be it. "Pulsar" is straight-up keyboard prog. Any musician worth his or her salt would love to come up with something as cool as "Nucleogenesis."

Possibly. It qualifies. The time it takes to listen to it was about as long as he took to improvise and record it, I hear. Wink

That, or Soil Festivities. Both are sublime.

Could be. Another good one is The City. As Direct was a callback to his '70s prog, The City feels peripherally like a hybrid of Opera Sauvage and Blade Runner

Spiral is my favourite.
I was however tempted to throw in a "protest vote" for Beaubourg or Hypothesis because I think they're underappreciated

Heaven and Hell for me, although there's plenty of good stuff to choose from in his 70s output. It's good to L'Apocalypse des Animaux getting some love.

Yes indeed. I came a little late to that one, but most definitely top three for me. A stunning masterpiece.

My vote goes to Spiral, just bought it on vinyl a few days ago. I can truly say that this album saved me.

I don't know so much Vangelis as perhaps I should. But are there more songs like Pulsar and the credits theme of Blade Runner? I mean, similar and just about as good.
