I couldn't see the wood for the trees, but then I saw Forest's Graveyard, and it all became clear,  mostly. Smile

^ If they only had a less boring drummer... that wouldn't help much. I find Mostly Autumn very unimaginative and musically uneventful. The female vocalist is pretty great. She could have had a brilliant career if she lived in the late 1960's, the 1970's or 1980's. As she would have been surrounded by more creative and original musicians back then.

^ they are basically Pink Floyd but with female lead vocals. Much like Floyd, the main interest is the lead guitarist IMO.

Ok, Pink Floyd and Gilmour created "much beauty", but their composisitons were always well crafted and genuinely carried the songs in meaningful ways. They were innovative, sonically interesting and very capable - without showing off skills. To me this "beauty" falls flat compared to the beauty of Floyd. I think in the 1970's a band like Renaissance was considered kind of safe and not very progressive compared to many of their contemporaries. If Heather Findlay had an ensemble a little like Annie Haslam did, the music would still have been on a whole other level of progressive than Mostly Autumn. While if they lived in the 1970's, Heather's band of musicians would have had to look elsewhere for work than in a profilic prog rock band. Sorry I don't mean to sound insulting. There's hundreds of bands that's not in any way about virtuosity, that still manages to exite me.
