I'm going to give Gazpacho some love, I really connect with that one. The Anekdoten and Porcupine Tree albums round out my top three.

Riverside over Porcupine Tree. It's around this time I was gettijng bored with The Flower Kings so to this day I've still never heard The Sum Of No Evil. I have listened to everything from Banks Of Eden onwards and I like those (mostly). Also reached a dead end with Dream Theater. I liked Octavarium but couldn't abide Systematic Chaos.

^ Systematic Chaos was a low point, but I really enjoyed BC&SL.

Not a high point either, but definitely superior to Systematic Chaos.

Much preferred Dramatic Turn to either of them, personally.

You are not the only one with such a preference, I understand it at least.

Scarsick by Pain of Salvation gets my vote. Scarsick is one of my favorite albums from POS and, in my opinion, their most underrated work.

I've never gotten the outsized distaste for Systematic Chaos. It has some underwhelming moments. But a decent portion of it is fantastic. In the Presence of Enemies is epic as hell.

"outsized distaste"?! That's harsh. But you described the album perfectly. I agree.

Here's how I tiered the DT releases. They're all on a really high level of musicianship, and I really like ITPOE - but as good as Systematic Chaos is, many of their other releases are even better.

^ The Astonishing and Six Degrees are too high and the debut is too low...
I made a DT ranking on a metal site, I think I shocked a few people.

I think Mike has Six Degrees just right, and actually agree with all of his top album selections. Of course it then becomes very subjective; I certainly prefer ADToE, to BCaSL, although I agree it is probably less original and fairly safe. I've never likes FII much, much preferring the out-take material (Cristi and I have mentioned this before). I can understand why people like the Astonishing, but it left me fairly cold.

Your Dream Theater tier gives me a feeling of Strange Deja Vu as it's very close to my DT albums ranking too.
