Both were released in 1990, and rank among the greatest albums ever by their respective composers.
Both were mostly self-performed (with a little outside help) and feature two extended "halves" (which are actually made up of many smaller segments). Current rankings on this site: Slow Dance = 4.25, Amarok = 4.03. Here's something to think about: what would a Mike Oldfield - Anthony Phillips collaboration album be like?

Slow Dance is my favorite of the two. Ironically, it reminds me of Mike Oldfield.

Slow Dance, just by an inch. Both are wonderful.

Not even close.…
But the idea of a collaboration is very intriguing! If only that could have happened in 1976: A merger of Hergest Ridge and The Geese and The Ghost sounds heavenly! |

Slowdance is in my top 20 all time , I refer to it as the perfect Sunday morning music option. Try it once and you will see.

I can't imagine Anthony Phillips collaborating with the cocky Oldfield but I am surprised how this album is panning Oldfield's effort here.

I would’ve thought this had been more even, but I guess the anteaters are out (nice one Steve although I’m more of a Beefeater man myself
![]() I voted for Amarok btw. It has been with me for far longer than Slow Dance and I really dig the whole experimental feel of it. To me it is a superb headphone album. Only downside? It always gives me a jolt! No matter how much I prepare for those odd synth/guitar stabs that pop up midway..I still end up flinching. Also one of those albums with so much dynamics that I always find myself fiddling around with the volumeknob. There’s a big jump from the quieter parts to the LOUD ones. |

I must get Slow Dance , would never expect Amarok to get such a pasting in a poll. (no vote)

^ Perhaps I shouldn't have an opinion based on only one listen but for me it lacks the energy of Oldfield's album which is a mad wild ride.
