Bass Communion - have I, II, and Ghosts.
The No-Man stuff is okay and so is Blackfield - both sound a little too pop-rock to me though. |

Surely his work with Opeth? Or does that not count?

Steve worked with Opeth, yes, but it really isn't HIS side project, thats why I didn't include it. |

Surely No-Man for me. I find it to be a very nice laid-back relaxing experience.

Blackfield.
Although I enjoy his other side projects, this one felt the most fully formed and realized of them all. Plus, its the only side project I've seen live. Was just Aviv, Steve and Jordan Rudess in a tiny hole in the wall in Virginia with about 100 people. Awesome. |

I voted for Blackfield, because the collaboration between Aviv and Steven seems to produce magic. If you listen at the preview of the new BF album on their MySpace, you'll hear yet another collection of 'perfect pop songs'! No-Man is amazing also! I like Returning Jesus the most, while Flowermouth, Loveblows and Lovecries, Together We're Stranger are wonderfull too. They made an amazing evolution during their career and covered almost every modern style, from eightees-pop to jazz and modern classical. I know two albums by IEM. great side-project. I also got a lot of music by Bass Communion which is a bit harder to get into, as the ambient/electronic scene is not really known to me. Still, I find his recently-on-lavishingly-packaged-deluxe-gatefoldsleeved-180grams-marbled-vinyl-rereleased album 'ghosts on magnetic tape a strange, morbid and just awesome experience.
The creatot of this poll forgot to mention another of his side projects, which is SWsolo. He's made an amazing series over so-called CoverVersion-singles (always one cover of a fairly well-known song and new song that kind of makes a nice couple with the covered song). Also, he released an album with a nice selection of his electronic music recorded since the early nineties.
I can't add more to this. SW is a genius, how can I stress this more? For me he's the incarnation of great music, great musicality, great production, great music taste and the abaility to talk in a fairly objective way about it (by for example liking Abba and the Carpenters for their songwriting skills).

No-Man. It's kind of trip-hoppy, which I like, and it's very different to PT.

I'd go for Blackfield, but IEM is equally good, although a bit stranger from time to time
![]() No-Man has its highlights but also its downsides... whereas Bass Communion does not seem to do it for me... |
