Topic: We go too slow (Silver Mt Zion poll) Posted: February 15 2008 at 15:48 |
I must admit I have always though of Zions as GY!BE offshot and nothing more. Debut was very good, others (2001-2004) were declining. And then I got "Horses in the Sky", which has changed my mind completely and quickly became one of my Top-20 Albums ever!!! A new one is good too, probably their second best on par with debut, though direction they're taking may disappoint some die-hard fans if there are any...

Still need to get 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons.
Love the others, Horses and He Has Left... in particular.

i was unsure of what to buy from their catalogue as they all have gotten relatively mixed reviews but i think you've officially steered me towards horses.

indeed I wonder why it's so underrated, maybe because I haven't submitted my 5-star review yet It has best songs (just check LastFM statistics), best lyrics and best musicianship. Love it!!!

I personally love everything by them. My personal favorite being 13 Blues For Thirteen Moons. Horses In The Sky is also REALLY great as well... My two favorites by them for sure!

If Efrim's voice weren't so insufferable, I would probably go with one of the newer releases. But I went with Born into Trouble...

All I have is thirteen moons, but it calls forextremely challenging listening, and I seriously doubt I'll ever be able to get through the entire album.
I guess I should get some more albums before I strt ranting though...

Hmm, I quite like the new Silver Mt. Zion, it's a three star album for definite. The vocals really work for me, and I like the band's idea of themselves as punk in general. Going to look back on their earlier releases so I can hardly vote right now.

Haven't heard 13 Blues yet, but I do have everything else from them. My favorite is Horses In The Sky. The lyrics on this album are the most disturbing on their discography. Plus I love the folk aspect on this album. As opposed to others I love the band because of the singing and lyrics. What Godspeed managed to do with their music Efrim makes it even more disturbing with his lyrics. Hey Igor, when are you going to give me some credit for the sig?

By the way, for those in North America (and beyond as well) and who want to support the source, you can check out the label itself, Constellation for the ASMZ albums and others :

Just bought 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons. Horrible stuff. Mainly noise. vocals are very reminiscent of John Lydon's atonal wailings in the Sex Pistols and the music isn't much better. Not sure why a band like this is included at Prog Archives. Note to self: filter Post Rock/Math Rock from searches when looking for best albums of year so far Mark
