D.F.A.
In light of their newly released album, 4th, I thought of having a thread for this Italian band.
Again, not exactly a serious poll, but more to get the band exposed and also a question for those who know the band well (I only have two of their albums so far):
What album would you suggest for newcomers to the band?
That and what's your favourite release of theirs (and why?)
PA bio:
Another intricate Prog band from Italy, with some psychedelic moods among their orchestrated and improvised music. The music is mostly instrumental, but some vocals in italian are present too. "Duty Free Area" (1999) probably ranks among the very finest Italian releases of the 90s. In all, DFA is a great jazzy symphonic group that surely stands apart from the pack of the modern prog scene. Highly recommended to fans of intricate / elaborate prog music. Links: Official website: http://digilander.iol.it/dfa/

Wish I'd heard enough of them to comment Assaf. But the most recent should be on some "best of 2008" lists...it will please many

I've yet to listen to 4th, but I've read good reviews and comments about it, as you say.
But I will; it's on my to get list in my future purchase.

Excellent band, their 4th album has not been listened to my ears yet, but i hope to do it soon.
For starters, Lavori in Corso is a great option because if you like it, then you will love the others as well.
Actually Trip on Metro is also unknown to me, but the 3 i know are all worth listening, either studio or the Work in Progress Live, will please you.

Duty Free Area...not a bad band name either.
And they have a track called Pantera, probably and hopefully not much to do with the band Pantera. |

I have a soft spot for Lavori in Corso . There is this long spacey bass fueled ride that is simply marvelous which I prefer to their more complex stuff where they have a tendency to really lay it on in terms of chops. Haven't heard the new yet though.

I haven't heard the "4th" album yet, but I'll vote for "Duty Free Area" because I love the eclectic approach (combining space-rock and ounces of heavy prog) to jazz-prog, its is richer than the already amazing debut album. Kind regards.

DFA 4th is the only one I have heard so far. Great band. How did I overlook them so long?

I've only heard 4th so far, so it has to be that one. A very good album, and great to see music like that still being made!

Love DFA. To me they are a more accessible Deux Ex Machina who I admire as well. But DFA have more melody in their songs and they resonate with me more each time I hear them. D E Machina don't do that for me.

This is a very tough callm on here, because of the three real studio albums (one is a demo, the other a live), they're all quite good.
I have a slight prefereance for Lavori, but they'reall fime.
