I just discovered this sublime band that is Ebonylake. They play a sort of avant-garde metal, and Unexpect seems to be the best comparison.

If there's any comparison with Unexpect then I'm going to have to check out Ebonylake.

Ebonylake crossed avant-garde with metal 7 years before unexpect saw the light of day. Unfortunately they didn't benefit from all the hype that surrounds unexpect currently .

John Zorn paved the way to this "unexpected" cross of genres with Painkiller (cited as an influence by the members of Unexpect).

Painkiller are horrific, but amazing at the same time. Avant-garde grindcore? Only Zorn is crazy enough to wake up one morning and have that brainwave
