Topic: Silver Mt. Zion vocals Posted: December 22 2009 at 20:16 |
Been getting heavily into '13 blues for thirteen moons' lately, and contrary to what alot of people think, I find the vocals to be great. They add a raw, down to earth quality that is often missing from post rock (Though it can sometimes drain some of the emotional impact... 'Blind Blind Blind' being the worst offender.
The lyrics on the other hand... Not sure I even want to think about them

I'm going to say great. Not only because the add a raw, down-to-earth quality, but also because they add to the emotional impact of the music. They're are just so honest and visceral. I couldn't imagine BlindBlindBlind being sung any other way, at least not in any way that has the same emotional effect.

Completely agree.
I think the vocals and how they compliment the music may be my favorite part of the whole band.

I said great, I enjoy his vocals, the lyrics aren't as good as I'd like, but they fit his vocals well. Yes they sound raw, but they also sound sincere, a lot more so than the plastic ones on the radio.

There good. Don't think they the best ever but certainly not bad. Nice unique voice thats usually used well.
Vocals in 13 Blues...are quite excellent. Probably my favorite vocal work from this band.

Dig me...But don't...Bury me I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

If one would actually treat the vocals in prog (and even rock per se) 100% academically, the aftermath (so to speak) would look catastrophic for the genre(s).
That said, Efrim's vocals seems a special case, touching a sensible chord to many; I myself like to be in the opposite group: they work inside ASMZ.
