The first album by these two groups after losing their front-man.

ASOS
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

No comparison for me. Trick of the tail gets my vote. Sheesh! It's the album that started the Neo prog wave.
Love Neo prog. One of my very favourite genres of prog.

Genesis.  Love PF and a fan of ASoS but Trick is probably the best album from a group after a major defection period.

Never liked early Floyd at all - until Atom Heart Mother, I dismissed them.

ATOTT is a very good album and Collins does a very creditable job in replacing Gabriel. But Genesis lost their way not when Gabriel left, but when Hackett got fed up of being sidelined and took his Les Paul home.

how can you even compare these two?
I can't vote but I'd pick "A Trick Of The Tail" (even though I'm a huge Floyd fanatic) because ASOS is just so damn uneven - it feels like some kind of compilation of leftover studio tracks they glued together to have a new album after Syd's meltdown..

I feel exactly the same way, Mr Mustard! As much as I like `Saucerful', it's like a framented collection of psychedelic bits and pieces that never felt like a cohesive album...and, you know, that's probably what makes it really quite charming!

But `Trick' is such an exquisite, lush symphonic classic, and like I mentioned on another thread that pondered whether `Trick' was a conceptual album, everything just holds together beautifully on that one, and the LP sleeve/CD booklet makes the album feel like a wonderful anthology work of fantasy literature!

Two great albums, but voting for `Trick' here!
