I've been into Devil Doll since their "Eliogabulus" album in 1990, but I think most proggers have never heard of them.  PA's biography has a great description which includes, "Dark and heavy prog band from Italy & Slovenia which inspires their music on the old silent horror movies."  Their vocalist (and main driving force) Mr. Doctor always reminds me of Peter Hammill following a psychotic break with reality.  If this sounds intriguing, I'd invite the curious to check out the "perverse yet brilliant soundscape of some forbidden netherworld" that is the world of Devil Doll...I guarantee you've never heard anything quite like them.

Those that have already sampled the madness are asked to vote for their favourite Devil Doll album Evil Smile

My wife bought Eliogabalus a few years ago, but I don't think I've listened to it more than once. Guess I should.

Heard Girl, liked Girl. No votes here until I've heard more of them.

I won't disagree with the majority.

I won't vote, because the only one I own is `Sacrilegium'. Oddly enough, I bought it right at the beginning of my prog collecting, and I had no idea what to make of it at the time! This would have been close to 20 years ago?! I've given it only brief plays over the years, but a few days ago I dug it to give a fresh spin.

A really fascinating, intense and wildly original band.

I don't own any Devil Doll but I know Finnforest recommended them to me some time ago. I still need to check them out.

I love them all but Eliogabulus is my clear favourite.  Most of the other ones have several sections with just a single unaccompanied instrument and can get a little tedious at times, but Eliogabulus has the most ensemble playing and the most focused compositions.  I think it's far and away the best of the bunch.  Not to mention, the song "Mr Doctor" has some vocal sections that are just plain disturbing.  All of them make for great headphone listening, but Eliogabulus also sounds amazing on a loud stereo.

Besides, how many bands can actually make an accordian sound evil Evil Smile
