I very much enjoy instrumental fusion with touch of metal, similar but not limited to:
4Front Mindflowers Planet X Johansson brothers projects (esp. Heavy machinery) Zeroesque Matalex (Jazz grunge) Gordian Knot LTE recent discovery: Marco Sfogli/Alex Argento band (song starts from 0:53) this is fantastic. what else would you recommend, with similar approach: heavy rhythm section, mix of fast and slow sections, trades between guitar and keyboard solos

Jean-Luc Ponty - A Taste For Passion. As ‘smooth’ and technical the playing is, there’s an element of heavy to it, especially with the rhythm section - double-kick drumming is always ‘heavy’ to my ears !!

^Marco RULES. That guy's playing is interdimensional.
Guthrie Govan "Erotic Cakes" immediately comes to mind:

Ooooh, how could I forget the German guys - Panzerballett. A very unconventional meeting of Extreme Metal and Fusion. Takes some adjusting to, but very cool nevertheless.

7 For 4: German jazz-fusion/prog. metal
Citriniti: from Italy Spaced Out: Antoine Fafard's old band. He's produced 5 suberb solo albums since but not as heavy as Spaced Out. Niacin: fabulous fast and furious fusion. Heavy but not in the vein of prog. metal. Counter World Experience: another German jazz-fusion/prog. metal band |

Some of Satriani's repertoire fits the bill. I watched a Satch concert taped at the Iridium. His backup band was the definition of "heavyweight": Bryan Beller on bass, Marco Minneman on drums, and Mike Keneally on keyboards and guitar! Check out Joe's album Unstoppable Momentum. |

I would check out Passport ( Klaus Doldinger)
Early 70’s album Cross Collateral and Hand Made Not guitar heavy but heavy sax and spacey keys Really rocks some intense songs as well as space jams https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RnE_h4lSqo4 |

How 'bout Special Providence (from Hungary)...
Or Intervals (from Canada)... Both are Jazz/Rock/Metal fusion oriented. |
