Better go for "In This Life" first. It's more cohesive. You can't go wrong with this band, though.
If you'll like TP,similiar groups like: Ahvak, 5uu's and Science Group will be very recommended for you.

They are all good, but I second the recommendation to start with In This Life. The live album Upon Both Your Houses would also make an excellent starting point.
The latest, A History of Madness, is a bit different, more understated and subtle, and I wouldn't recommend it as a starter.

I find "In Extremis" a powerful, perfect album, a lot of it is
performed live on "In This Life", and the presence of Bob Drake
on bass and vocals (like an updated Chris Squire gone beserk)
adds a lot...he's also on a few 5uu albums. Also highly
recommended is Hamster Theater's "Carnival Detournement", it
also has a lot of musicians from Plague, notably genius
guitarist Mike Johnson, and multi-instrumentalist Dave Willey.
You can find this and some 5uu albums, also U Totem on
www.cuneiformrecords.com.

Excellent band, as are the other recommended bands.
Both "In This Life" and "In Extremis" are good places to start off. I personally started with "In Extremis".
