Tales Of The Great Wars (Lex Rex) is probably my favourite.
I couldn't find that on youtube but this is also very nice (from Shadowlands) featuring some lovely harmonies and nifty keyboard work (as always). Always loved Fred's drumming before he handed over the drumsticks to supposedly more professional players (after Lex Rex)

Glass Hammer's cover of "South Side of the Sky" from the album Culture of Ascent is the best prog cover song I've ever heard. Heck, I like it even better than the original.

In all seriousness, the album that really hooked be into GH was Lex Rex. Shadowlands was only OK at the time. But if you can, get both: they are, without a shadow of doubt the best albums by the band and are truely masterpieces of progressive rock.

I usually go for chronological order of album releases when I discover a new band, but in this case I wouldn't and would get Shadowlands, as the folks before me said. Lex Rex is also a fine choice, though. Also, their latest one If, is also a good one to get in my opinion. Forget all the comparisons etc (though the singer sounds like Jon Anderson indeed), and just listen to the music on that album. Oh, and headphones-listening is highly recommended.

Hi. Its not only about "Singer Sound" its better to say "Singer Style". AND one thing : I grew up with bands like YES. How can I forget all the comparisons easily?! I try to do this but its very difficult for me."IF" is a good album but I cant ignor many of similarities to YES.
Now back to topic. I recommend "Chronometree" . Its very great album.

I actually started with Chronometree and Perelandara. The former is good ( the vocals aren't super great but the worked for me) and the "plot" is hilarious!. The latter is more inconsistent at the end - I think I got it because I'd just finished re-reading the trilogy but the first half is great. They tried to somehow incorporate peices of all three books and I think it becomes distracting after a while. Then I got Lex-Rex and it really left me cold. It's very well done, it just didn't click for me. But Then I got Shadowlands and everything was right with the world again.

Lex Rex also left me cold to start with although I put that down to the very odd narration between the tracks.

My first GH album was Perelandra - which I bought back in the 1990's. At the time, I was really excited to hear where this new band was headed. I still like the album but listening back to it with today's "ears", the production sounds rather dated.
To avoid dated production factors, I recommend starting with anything they released released after 2002 (except for 2009's abberation "Three Cheers for the Broken Hearted", a decent collection of short psych-pop tunes that is totally out-of-step with anything else they've ever released).
Personally, I think Shadowlands is a great starter GH album. The songs are spacious enough to supply ample room for awesome displays of keyboard virtuosity but they are also concise enough to keep the listener's attention focused upon the conceptual stories that they share. It also has the bonus of including a surprisingly proggie cover of a Dan Fogelburg song! Ironically, even though GH added extended instrumental solo passages to their progged-up version, the song was still "Longer" back when Dan Fogelburg originally performed it! Shocking but true!! ;-)
After Shadowlands, if you are particularly ambitious, "The Inconsolable Secret" is the band's TFTO (so to speak). It requires quite a bit of patience and investment - but the payoff potential is fantastic! Then again, I would not be surprised to hear that you hated it rather than loved it.
Of course, I'm a bit of a GH fanboy so I highly recommend "Culture of Ascent" and "If" as well.
