Gypsys, and the second Gypsys release 'Live at the Fillmore East' is especially good.

" Band of Gypsys" is very hard to beat. One of a kind Hendrix, at his very best.

Electric Ladyland.
I would add to the list "First Rays Of The New Rising Sun". It's a 1997 release but it contains 17 "new" songs that Hendrix had recorded as a folllow-up to Electric Ladyland, but sadly it was never released because of his death. Don't miss it, it's almost as good as the classic albums.

..and for more live stuff, the 'Stages' box set is fantastic, a must for Hendrix lovers or guitar enthusiasts.

Axis: Bold as Love, closely followed by Band of Gypsys and then Are You Experienced? and Electric Ladyland.

let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword

I'd like to point out a rare Hendrix Live record:
In the west
Features the best "Vodoo child" cover, an excellent "Red house" one and a wonderful "Little wing", with great sound.

Very few albums have had the awe-inspiring effect on an entire generation of music lovers like "Are You Experienced?" had. Every kid who thought he knew how to play guitar had to rethink everything he knew after listening to it and every band from the Beatles and the Who down to the garage band practicing down the alley was affected one way or another. It was the 600 pound Gorilla that could not be ignored.

Are You Experienced? is by far his best. Electric Ladyland is just too watered down, IMO.

Are You Experienced? is more revolutionary and important, but EL is more realized. Jimi finally casts off Chas Chandler's oppresive limitations and plays his songs at the length he planned.
