Topic: Repetitive Artists Posted: October 25 2006 at 10:42 |
Which artist do you feel to be repetitive, using the same formula over and over again.
I voted for Malmsteen. I used to be a big fan but since his "Attack" album it all just sounds so much the same. Same solos, same song structures...
Status Quo (Known as the 4 chord wonders) still come up with some nice compositions on occasion, as do AC/DC.

Some AC/DC songs are very good, But alot of their songs can be seen as fillers of Albums and Concerts. Some of their riffs are also very similar to eachother. Good band, nevertheless!

AC/DC is extremely repetetive, and one of the most irritating rock bands ever. All their stuff just annoys me to death.

| You know, it's a lot harder to come up with a good chord progression that's longer than 4 independent chords (of course you can alter them slightly) than you think. Plus, there are an astounding of posibilities you can get with 4 chords. It's this mentality prog fans tend to get: "if it's only 4 chords - by the way, it's 3 you're thinking of - it can't be good."

I voted for malmsteen. I think he only has 1 solo that just runs up and down the fret board. It's so fast that nobody can tell that every song he's playing exactly the same thing.

AC/DC is really repetitive but not too irritating for me, probably because I only listen to AC/DC occasionally.

Status Quo is probably the most repeatative band ever, even worse than Yngwie Malmsteen and AC/DC combined!

Well I dug out a Malmsteen album lately and don't know what I saw in it in the first place. Oh those vocalists he uses... For me it has to be AC/DC. I own about 3 albums of theirs and don't intend on having more- in fact I've sold a few. They define 'formulaic'. As for Status Quo, well I don't think they are all that samey- they certainly weren't up until their excellent 'Live' album. Lots of great studio albums from 'Piledriver' through 'Blue For You'. After that, forget it though. I still vote for AC/DC.

At least Malmsteen has skill. AC/DC gets my vote. And by the way, sure it's hard to come up with a good, four-chord progression, but only if you're doing silly, repetitive riff-based music.
