A very different poll!!!! strange, but why not!!!!!

I don't see the HISTORICAL merits of bands such as Rainbow (which i like) and Dtheater (just noise)  and can't see some bands put in the same league with the BEATLES or JS BACH!!!!!!

Those 2 will be listened to decades and centuries ahead of us, the rest i don't know and King CRIMSON  is my faborite prog band.

Another good thing about this pollClap Clap there is no mention of GENESIS who whould have been voted on this site the biggest all time musical wonder in the history of mankind by all their fanatics!!!!

king crimson are sort of totally awesome!

mostly it's because I prefer all the bands inspired by king crimson to all the bands inspired by floyd etc etc. I guess there's a little bach in everything but john wetton is pretty much a better bass guitar player than him. ;)

Oh boy...

Bach

PS Can people have as favourites artists they acknowledge mainly because of their historical merits? I mean, historical merits turn people on for liking music?

Bach?! Seriously Mandy...

I s'pose Crimson and Floyd are most entitled for anything in a merit of prog history.

Historical merit could be a factor, but it's not enough on its own, you're really supposed to LOVE your favourites.

In this poll, there's just no competition!

Look, I truly enjoy Yes, Crimso and Tull. Each of these bands has produced at least a handful of great 45-minute works.

But what then to think of JS Bach, who left us at least 200 handfuls?

I cannot decide, really this should be a multiple choice poll!

King Crimson, Dream Theater, Beatles, Pink Floyd

You're right, historical merits are needed when someone rates artistic achievements, not when loving them. Gotta agree with the rest of your post also, but you know it's de gustibus non est disputandum...

I love most of them, but I chose DT. I'm not a fan of PFM or Rainbow, and JS Bach is Confused. I'm sorry he's just SO BORING!!!!!!! Any pre-romantic classical I will most likely dislike.

Plus I don't get the point of this poll
