Seriously, they're pretty much my favorite band right now, and Merriweather Post Pavilion will almost certainly be the best album of 2009. Appreciate them.

Yes it is. My Girls, Summertime Clothes, Taste, and Brothersport are among the best songs they've done, and the rest are all very good.

mmm animal collective. i love me some animal collective. havent had too much time to give MPP its due yet but i love in the flowers, my girls, and summertime cloths so far. Favorite from them is feels, then sung tongs, then strawberry jam. but thats interchangeable any given day. just recently got campfire songs and here comes the indian and spirit they're gone.
you guys counting Panda Bear as Animal Collective? i wasnt huge on person pitch, though i do like it. too much music, not enough time. i promise to give my week to AC and related projecs and maybe then ill be able to come here and give nice numbers next to my album ratings

I thought Merriweather was good, but kind like Strawberry Jam pt 2, what I always loved about Animal Collective before is that each new album was a completely different exercise from their previous,
when I saw them live they blew, 3 guys on keyboards with looped drums was boring

IMO, Merriweather Post Pavilion sounds way more like Feels than Strawberry Jam, and it doesn't even sound that much like Feels.
Plus it's better than anything else they've done.

Man I'm late to this but HUUUUUGE appreciation for this group. I love them so much. Merriweather is booty-thumpin' fun start to finish! I also want to highlight "Bluish" and "Daily Routine" as among the best songs they've done, especially the former. That one and "My Girls" are my two favorites, though I do love the whole thing. It's hard for me to rate the albums (especially to the .1), but here's my equality statement:
Strawberry Jam=Merriweather Post Pavilion>Feels>Sung Tongs=Water Curses>>>Everything else
I would give SJ & MPP 9.5-10, Feels a 9, Sung Tongs and Water Curses 8.5. They're all great, really. I'm not too much into their old stuff or the Panda Bear album, but I can't get enough of their recent stuff.

Also, that Animal Collective picture in my signature is hilarious.

Yes it is.
MPP: 1. Summertime Clothes (10/10) 2. My Girls (10/10) 3. Brother Sport (10/10) 4. Taste (10/10) 5. In the Flowers (9.5/10) 6. Bluish (9.5/10) 7. Also Frightened (9/10) 8. Guys Eyes (9/10) 9. Lion in a Coma (9/10) 10. No More Runnin (8.5/10) 11. Daily Routine (8/10)
Daily Routine loses because of the unnecessary, way overlong outro.

I don't think intro is that bad, lengthwise. It kinda locks in a trance, which is cool by me. Also, I don't think Taste is that good. For me it's one of the least spectacular songs on the album (though of course it's still a great song).

Yeah I see it like that, too. I need to listen to MPP a few more times before I give a solid opinion, but from what I can grasp it's a pretty decent album, but I feel it's lacking something sonically that was present on their earlier stuff. That said, Bluish is one of the best songs they've released in their career (in my opinion).

I love Animal Collective!
My favorite still is Strawberry Jam, but Merryweather comes pretty close. My favorite moment in Animal Collective history is the part in In the Flowers where he sings "I like this song", because that's exactly what I feel at that point!
Have you guys tried Water Curses EP? The first track is unbelievable. In fact I don't think they've done a bad song. I don't like listing favorite bands, but at the moment AC are at the top.

Hooray! Another Bluish fan!
Also, yes! Water Curses is one of my favorite AC songs. The rest of the EP is pretty darn good, too.

The outro to Daily Routine is the sole thing that keeps the album from being a perfect 10 for me (there are only 5 albums I'd give a perfect 10, fyi), unfortunately. Taste is the album's darkhorse. Listen to the album enough and that song will just start creeping up on you like nothing else. I'm listening now and OMFG this album is amazing. I WANT TO WHATI WANT TO WHATI WANT TO WHAT
