To me, Grace Under Pressure and Clockwork Angels were both great Rush albums. Between the Wheels from Grace... is one of my favorite Rush songs.

The ones who say that are the ones who did not like the bigger synth sound Rush embraced on the albums immediately following Moving Pictures — that, plus the departure of Terry Brown after Signals, Geddy playing a Steinberger L2 along with his Rick and Fender, etc.

But, like you say, he's a "casual" fan.

Well, that's how I would label his interest. He's three years older than me, never saw them live and only owned several compilations and moving pictures and not much else. I don't think he's basing his opinion on a real knowledge of their entire output(or even most of it). I could be wrong but I don't think I'm too far off the mark here. He did go see their last movie with me when it came out in the theater(sevearl months before Neil passed away). I remember giving him names of songs for him to check out on his spotify. He's really more into 80's and 90's alternative rock and singer songwriter stuff although in the past few years he has claimed that Journey is one of his favorite bands.

Right. Sometimes you'll see these discussions online about who are the greatest classical composers and which of their works were "great" and the "greatest." They are using the term great in the same way many of us might use the word masterpiece or even classic. For me Signals is a great album and so were several of their post MP albums. While I think clockwork angels gets off to a rocky start most of that album is pretty  solid so I would say CA(or CWMFA as some call it)qualifies as great imo.

That might be fun, Jon and Rick, but no Portnoy. Alex has worked already with Marco Minnemann so they have some chemistry. Portnoy has not worked with any of these legends, he's fine where he is LOL.

I'm not holding my breath for any of this to happen before 2022, late.

I thought of Portnoy because, well, I know him well enough and love Dream Theater, and because, given his working with Transatlantic and Neal Morse he is right into the kind of music Yes did (and given DT, he is right for heavier music too). But yeah, Marco should be great too.

Interesting song from debut album of Crown Lands.  They used 3 different Rush producers on this album.  Hear Three Rush Producers’ Work on Crown Lands’ Tribute Song (ultimateclassicrock.com)  Probably, not the right place to share this, but I think that Rush fans might appreciate this.

I wouldn't be surprised if they played some live dates, just because.

Just not Rush.

Whatever they call themselves there's no rule that says they can't play Rush songs though. I don't see why that wouldn't happen. It probabably wouldn't be just Rush songs though. I get the feeling they want to make new music together and at some point play that stuff live(depending on what the state of the world is like when that happens otherwise live just means in a studio over zoom).

Rush material will most certainly get played, but I bet they won't open with it, and they probably won't frontload the show with Rush tunes, either. I'd expect them to play every new song they make, along with some Victor and Headache stuff in order to delay playing Rush songs (or even relegate them to encores).

This all feels like it's a while off, anyway — the second half of 2022, at the earliest.

If they do music together I think it will be new studio content or guesting on other bands albums, it seems Geddy is the only one has not said no to touring, but he would be on his own probably.

Alex has had hand issues over the past 10yrs, but he mentioned they feel much better now. As far back as the Rush In Rio DVD, Alex mentioned hand issues.

Can't see them playing live. TBH I wouldn't want them to do old material, without Neil that would be a pale imitation of former glory. I don't think Alex can play those songs anymore anyway, you can hear him struggle on the live material. No disrespect intended, his hands got sick! Likewise, Geddy's voice was shot to pieces.

OTOH, some instrumental stuff, perhaps not a million miles from My Favourite Headache or Victor would be cool.

Of course all this assumes it's ever going to happen. But some new studio material would be welcome. I just don't think the live arena is the right path. IMHO
