Hammill for his range and intensity.

Haven't heard much of Inga or Beefheart.  From the rest, Mike Patton.  Ok, I don't like even close to everything he has done but the stuff I do is enough to beat the poll competition imo.  Now add Devin Townsend and it would have been impossible to decide.

I'd go with Greg Lake if he was here, but from this list I'd choose Mikael Akerfeldt, his clean vocals are absolutely wonderful.

All the proud men turned to dust
And so all things, time will mend
So this song will end"

From the list - I'll go for Ian Anderson at his peak in the 70s and 80s he had a wonderfully expressive voice who could show wit, pathos, complexity and depth - and his little pauses between phrases or words were superb.

Sadly, we all know his vocal troubles over the last decade or so, and it is sad when I've seen him live the last decade, as I've willed him to reach those notes and scan in time as he gulped to get the volume up etc. I've sweated more than in a gym session to mentally get through songs.

However, at his best. He really was unstoppable!

All the best Ian - but please make it up with Martin! It's just not right to hear Tull live these days without old Lancelot!

Hammill over Patton and Beefy

Jon Anderson--I like nice sounding male voices---that can soar and be beautiful---his voice isn't just high it has a a great full sound---like a fine oboe. Smile

I mean I like others on the list but some I loath.Shocked

But you removed Peter Hammill.
No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

interestingly Inga and Dagmar were in the same band at the same time, "The City Preachers". Inga then first fronted Frumpy and later Atlantis, Dagmar went off to sing for Slapp Happy, Henry Cow and the Art Bears and later the Feminist Improvising Group, an all female band consisting of 5-8 members, among them Lindsay Cooper, Georgie Born and Maggie Nicols.

the FIG also openly advocated lesbianism, by the way. one of their numbers was called "Dip Me in Chocolate and Throw Me to the Lesbians"
