Could have voted for everybody but if it's violin that stands out, love the playing of Darryl Way in Curved Air.

I'll add the other nominees shortly. I had forgotten about Horslips. I have a couple of LPs but never added any CDs to my collection.

Where's my beloved Horslips? Charles O'Connor is/was absolutely brilliant on violin on all of their albums. Here's the magnificent King Of The Fairies. |

Many good choices but only Curved Air had Sonja Kristina. Love that voice.

I love his first solo record Concerto for Electric Violin. (Ian Mosley plays drums on the final piece.)

Voted UK over Crimson because KC not really violin-led. JLPonty and Didier Lockwood have some great stuff. Love Wolf's "McDonald's Lament". Love the violin on Bob Dylan's "Hurricane"!

Easy vote for Kansas. Coulda' been UK if they'd had more output.

I miss ELO (Mik Kaminski) and FM. Actually is quite hard to
choose especially between Kansas, UK and Mahavishnu (Jean-Luc Ponty years).

No Frank Zappa/Mothers? Jean Luc Ponty is still playing the music of Frank Zappa.
