I have 4 of the 5 in the top 5 (no TMV yet) and nothing below 5 (unless I count Soft Machine, which isn't an original album... not sure what that's doing there really!).
Opeth's Ghost Reveries is the one I've listened to the most, but that's because it's in the car. Porc. Tree's Deadwing... hmm, I need to give it some more listens, I like the album, but not sure how well I rate it yet. VdGG... my favourite band, 2 outstanding tracks (Every Bloody Emperor and Nutter Alert), but I've not played it that often... Wobbler - Hinterland, as somebody said, the vocals are a tad weak (the samples on their website are much better), but great synth prog!
I cannot comment on the others.
2006 is looking good though!
The Devin Townsend Band - Synchestra (a bit cheesy in places) The Tangent - A Place In The Queue (album of the year by a mile!)
Looking forward to Tool's new one as well.

Great choices - shame not to see Echolyn in there but good anyway.
Mars Volta should be number 1 spot for me and Porc Tree 2nd. I'd swap Wobbler for Echolyn or you could make top 6!

I totally agree! Pepper's Ghost was very dissapointing. Arena's worst album since 'Pride'!

Well i agree with deadwing and especially Ghostreveries here. I'm very suprised at the Wobbler choice , music is is ok but not original. the singing really really awful. embarrissing really. If you have to have an album reminiscent of the seventies then Glasshammer seems a (much) better choice.
Edit: Since i posted my criticism above I have listened many times to the Wobbler album and actually it is a very good album. In fact vocals are only somewhat annoying in the middle of Hinterland, for the rest they are acceptable. So it's worthy. Also with the inclusionof Riverside there would have been only one symphonic prog album left in top 5. For me it's simple,
Riverside - second life syndrome or Opeth - Ghostreveries
And this is a really hard choice indeed ..

I'm amazed at the number of people that have said that Octavarium deserves to be in the top 5, this is the worst album that they have released from the 6 that I have and I cant see FII and WDADU being worse from the few songs that I've heard.
BTW is there a list for 2004 as well.

Bought the Wobbler album in response to this list. I'm not disappointed.

I own the number one favourite "Deadwing". The others I have not yet heard. "Deadwing" is a well chosen number one and I dare say that the others are all up there, however, I would like to have seen Glass Hammers' "The Inconsolable Secret" and Kate Bush's "Aerial" further up the ranks.

IMHO there is a big difference and Frances is the standout album. Deadloss erm sorry wing is ok and has it's moments but am i the only person to find it a bit dreary?
I wouls not be surprised that in the future the PT album the lostdead sorry lostwing no,no, dead wing will be revised downwards and that Frances will be hailed as a classic. It took Vivaldi 200 years to be recognised so theres plenty of time.

I take it you don't like Porcupine Tree?
That's ok because I don't like The Mars Revolting...errrr.....Volta.

Hmmm, none of those would make my top 5 (or probably even 10). Although I am unfamiliar with a couple of them, Wobbler for instance, though I am quite interested in hearing them. I've noticed a definite Metal leaning of most of the people who say they listen to prog. Which is totally fine, but where are all the symphonic nuts?
In my opinion Glass Hammer was very slighted in this list. The musicianship alone puts them far above Porcupine Tree. And I like Porcupine Tree, don't get me wrong, but they don't hold a candle as far a musicianship is concerned, again in my humble opinion.
I am upset, but not surprised, to see some excellent albums missing.

Ok, fair choice but where is DT? Surely their album is better than VDGG!
I know there have been some other bands like Pagan's mind and Shadow gallery, Biomechanical, Co&Ca, Angra and John Petrucci that may not be included but defently DT should be in the top 5! | I don't think so. Octavarium is a mediocre Dream Theater album. Both Volta and VDGG far surpassed Octavarium in my book.

The Black Halo should've definitely made this list in my opinion. Masterpiece.
I would like to say Octavarium, but it's too widely debated about whether it's really a "great" album or not.
