I hadn't heard any Gentle Giant until recently so I embarked on a campaign of listening to their albums. I can't fault the excellent musicianship but, for the most part, the songs don't grab me. VDGG wins!

I don't like VdGG at all. Their music seems pointless to me most of the time, although sometimes it has its momtents, non of their music ever managed to move me in any way...
Gentle Giant on the other hand is pure genius and very influential on many progressive music from my country, including my own band.... Although sometimes they lack the emotion of Camel or Genesis, they are so innovative and intellegent that I just don't mind... The only band that really comes close to classical composers in term of raw musical genius and complexity.

VDGG, excellent band.
No matter how often I try, I can't get into GG. We were obviously not made for eachother.

I'd choose Gentle Giant over Van der Graaf Generator any day. I think
that VdGG are a too hyped. Don't get me wrong, they're good, they're
just not as glorious as everybody seem to think, at least in my opinion.

'Was It Real or did we dream. The days of children gone. Seagull's
scream and pink ice cream and the deep blue sky And the waves seem high
and the town brass band play on'
Gentle Giant music for every mood and feeling... VdGG iis great for a nervous breakdown...

It is just one of 10000 polls "Who do you love more - mommy or daddy?" or "who do you want to sleep with - Keira Knightley or Scarlett Johansson?"
|
yet you still have time!

Gentle Giant
Because of their very creative, playful and complex, yet cool music.
