I think they've been evaluated and rejected by the team once already, but personally I'd be more than happy to see them added. Time for a second look, methinks.

a.P.A.t.T. are an avant-prog band from the North West of England, including Liverpool. Their bio (self-written?) can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APAtT Musically they seem to range from avant-pop whimsy through more standard avant-prog territory (if such a thing exists!) and electronic prog to pretty intense metal landscapes. They site a huge number of good prog influences (and I exclude ABBA) on their homesite http://www.apatt.com/ including; *Mens Recovery Project *Need New Body *The Residents *Duran Duran *Olivia Tremor Control *Frank Zappa *Captain Beefheart *WEEN *John Zorn *The Beach Boys *Todd Rundgren *Slayer *Brian Eno *Mr Bungle *Of Montreal *Tortoise *Sax Ruins *Cardiacs * The Beatles *Metronomy *Gong *Khanate *Tortoise *DEVO *Dillinger Escape Plan *Gentle Giant *White Noise *Bjork *Icy Demons *Talking Heads *Brutal Truth *Aphex Twin *Black Sabbath *The Locust *William D Drake *Bonzo Dog Do Dah Band *Van Dyke Parks *ABBA *Claude Debussy * ad infinum A couple of albums (L.P. and Black & White Mass (described as "Mad hatters tea party for avant-rock heads" on OrganGrinder)), a few EPs (including Fre(e.P.), free to download on http://apatt.bandcamp.com/album/fre-e-p), some compilations and a number of multimedia projects including Nosferatu Le Vampire commissioned by BBC Radio make up the story so far. A remix album is also available for free download on LastFM at http://www.last.fm/music/a.P.A.t.T./a.P.A.t.T.+Exclusive+LAST+FM+MIxTApe a.P.A.t.T. are currently touring the UK as support for Secret Chiefs 3, and as someone who’s just seen them, deliver an amazing set. Well worth seeing if you get the chance (as are Secret Chiefs!) and an obvious candidate for this site. All band members seem to be equally adept at guitars, base, keyboards and drums. Plenty of video links on the home site as well as YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHISQZMAhM8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UieoXKU_Rx0&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwo8il8F49I&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2edxY1CMvI0&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhp5WUW-o0U&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhp5WUW-o0U&feature=related A couple of more poppy numbers; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PD4Xb19MPvA&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVzInctLTaA&feature=related On that note, they were brought up in general discussions and seemingly dismissed as too pop: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=69787 While pop is certainly part of their repertoire, this band can certainly rock out. There was not much pop on their recent live set. In fact, as someone who likes extreme (prog) metal, their closing number was the most painfully heavy track I’ve ever willingly been subjected to! If they are considered too pop for avant, would crossover have a look at them? Edited by Bosh66 - October 25 2011 at 07:34 |
