Been a Talking Heads fan ever since I heard Remain In Light at the record store. Had a friend who also liked Devo, but they never really did it for me. Saw them on the Colber Repor not too long ago and they were OK, but I decided not to dig any deeper.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

The Talking Heads were more experimental and artistic in my opinion. They could create some wonderful compositions that were not only complex, but commercially acceptable. David Bryne is such a great songwriter and his stuff with Eno is also really good. They get my vote.
This.
I was told that Adrian Belew was supposed to replace Bryne later on in the band's career.
At the time, the internal relationships in Talking Heads were particularly strained. The band's rhythm section, Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz, covertly approached Belew with the suggestion that he should replace Byrne as the band's frontman - an offer which Belew politely turned down. - Wiki.
Cool, I'd never heard that. I think Belew could have filled the role well, had he wanted to. It's to his credit that he declined, though. He had his own vision for his music.

Another Devocentric thread from SmartPatrol . Love Devo's first Q&A album one of my favourites and then the second is ok too. But on the whole Talking Heads probably get the vote. But Are we not men gets best album.

My friend's dad's band, back in the day (late 80's) actually opened for Devo. Pretty cool.
