Isn't there a song about Alexander the Great by Iron Maiden?

Yep. That's the one. Others mentioning something won't stop me. Someone mentioned the Eloy thing too. I see it all the time on here where others repeat what others have said. If that's not your thing I respect that but I guess everyone does things their own way.

"I have a dream that we can change it
You need just a glimpse of hope and I Will be your leader in the fight against Rome We're united, so you don't stand alone" Triumvirat's concept album about Spartacus sure qualifies

First time I've heard that. I can't imagine Rick being that dense. There are six tracks to the album, and the photograph of Rick is taken at the album's namesake exhibit.

Here are a few that may be lesser known:
Steely Dan, Kid Charlemagne - Owsley Stanley Wapassou, Ludwig - Ludwig II of Bavaria Ben Allison, Man Sized Safe - Dick Cheney Charles Mingus, Fables of Faubus - Orval E. Faubus Isildur's Bane, Picassiette - Raymond Isidore Dead Kennedys, California Über Alles - Jerry Brown Not all of them strictly tributes, mind you. Edited by Mascodagama - March 19 2019 at 18:21 |

No, but "Whatever would Robert have said" from the same album should count.

The Shakespeare song "The Play's the Thing" had already been mentioned in the thread, so I did not refer to it myself.

"White Hammer" by Van Der Graff Generator doesn't really count does it?
If there's ever a thread of Prog Songs That Honoured Treaties, I'll be in with this answer! |

Both fall into the category of songs where you would need the writer to tell you what they are allegedly about, as the lyrics lack any actual detail or specificity. A sign of crap writing, I'd say. Now if they had called the song “Closet (full of jars of my piss) Chronicles” we could have worked it out for ourselves. |

He also had a song about Shakespeare on his "in a foreign town" album. Not one of his better albums apparently but I liked a few tracks on it.

Well, Eloy did a whole album about Joan of Arc. Also, Rick Wakeman did his six wives of Henry VIII. Also, I believe there was an album on Magna Carta which was a tribute to Leonardo D' Vinci. The Kansas song "he knew" was apparently about Albert Einstein. Not sure what else off the top of my head.
