I think that might be legal, but 30 second samples of prog songs?  Somehow I don't think that's going to work very well.

I think mp3 in this website was the main reason for news members engage in progressive rock and PA.
Probably PA will be not the most acessed prog-website now...
I have sent some mp3 to you guys because I wanted show the beauty that prog-rock is, presenting brazilian and south american progressive to people from other side of globe, and, of course, learn more about others prog genres from other places.

Again this just shows the true foolishness of the record companies as it is the easiest thing in the world to make an mp3 out of streamed music.

OK, I follow you.  However, that's assuming you can actually stream the entire song.  Other people have pointed out that it's not possible for everyone to do so.  Also, if the computer on which you're downloading doesn't have a sound card, you can't do it (that's not an unrealistic situation - while I was studying I had to use university computer labs in order to download the mp3s, which I would then take home and listen to). 

Just one question, has there been an official explanation as to why the streaming as opposed to downloading has been implemented?  I don't recall seeing one (and I'm too lazy to go back and check the previous posts in this thread ).

A few points to add.

Firstly, many of the old MP3s were of a questionable choice anyway. Some of the tunes selected were not of the best representation of the artist(s). Guess what? I downloaded a handful to examine in my spare time, only about five remain UNDELETED!!! - not because of the artists, but for the choice in the sample. 

Secondly, where I live in country Australia, there are no record stores carry more prog than the Spice Girls! And, I AIN'T GOING TO BUY ANOTHER ALBUM ON RECOMMENDATION, EVER, OVER MAIL ORDER - unless I had a chance to hear it first! I bought hundreds in the past, many were disappointing. My Internet connection speed of 19200 bps (on a good day!) taking about over an hour to download one average lenght tune. Surely, it's not a bonanza for me!!!!! - but affords to have an idea at least of the style. Which brings me to:

Thirdly,  Streaming is great as long as one has a connection speed allowing multiple listening without interruptions (provided your PC can replicate the sound better than a pocket radio!!!). Most prog tunes benefit from careful and repeated attention, music interrupted every few seconds will surely not be of much interest.

Fourthly, record companies should rub their hands over the free exposure provided by the odd tune and I'd be surprised that they would object to that. Indeed I assume that they may have someone to examine trends and prepare releases according to public opinion, of which the Archives is a great vehicle.

Lastly, with MP3s gone and Streaming is a privilege of a select few, the Archives have just lost an important advantage in promoting lesser known performers.

Although a bit more work is needed there is not exactly hard to get hold of these files as mp 3 files...
