Love both but the Strawbs have more truly great albums. Said this once already tonight but the Strawbs are the most under-appreciated band in prog history.

Most regard Tarkus side one as ELP's masterpiece although I find the studio version somewhat in the shadow of that brilliant live version of the WBMFTTSTNE album. Tarkus Side 2 is what drags the ratings down understandably although still maintains a healthly 3.9ish average rating which isn't bad for half an album |
The wonderful WBMFTTSTNE album didn't managed (as expected obviously) to include a perfect selection of pieces for every ELP fan, it would have been even more fantastic if they had played The Endless Enigma, as well as The Only Way (Hymn) from Tarkus which is one of my favourites too, another great highlight from Tarkus
|
Shame they dropped The Endless Enigma after the Trilogy tour. There are versions from that tour on the Manticore Official bootleg series including one where they had to stop for a while due to unrest in the audience. Eventually it brought under control by Greg with some well chosen words.

I've made a rule that I cannot vote in the poll if I don't own at least one album by each of the options. In this case I don't own any Strawbs albums so I am unable to vote for my favourite band (ELP). Doesn't look like its going to matter though. |
I think this is not about you own or not. One question: Why you haven't only ONE of Strawbs album? Are you listen to Strawbs or not? This is very important question. If you listened and you don't like this kind of music then You can vote in this poll and if you didn't listen you can't vote. IMO

we need to get the folkies out in force to close the gap, even if the final outcome is clearly not in doubt

I don't 'hate' ELP ... there are a few songs I really like, but for the most part, listening to them (for me) is like having a giant clown beating me in the face with a circus organ being played by a lunatic.
