It was long ago, but yes, I do believe it was the LTIA that got me into KC.

I would think that Hocus Pocus is as daring and imaginative as anything King Crimson has done... but overall, yeah, I guess you are right.

Hocus Pocus is daring in the sense of having outrage value.  Its novelty value fades rather quickly.  KC were daring at a deeper level, I would say, messing around with structure itself, especially on LTIA.

Well, if "Elephant Talk" had been the first thing I heard from King Crimson and had been recomended to me as a reference for the group, I certainly wouldn't have gone any further. Fortunatley, I got to that song once I already knew more about the band.

King Crimson.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

Well there's some kind of pleasure without resposability when you vote for a band that will loose.

But I have to vote for Focus because I love their first albums and don't care for anything by KC except the debut and Starless

Who cares?

King Crimson may have influenced many other bands, but so what? Does that make their music better?

The other reason is that Focus had a sense of humour and fun. Everything about KC is so "up its own ****" and serious.
Hardly!
