Roxy and Elsewhere is my pick for best Zappa album.

Followed by the Helsinki Concert (YCDTOSA2), Just Another Band from LA, You Are What You Is, Burnt Weeny Sandwich, Absolutely Free, Live in NY, and Make a Jazz Noise Here (in no particular order). I don't see the latter two albums on this list though...

The one with the "What would you do, daddy?' line in it, also Just another band from L.A., and the Drowning witch is highly under-rated.

One Size Fits All, with special regard for Inca Roads.

My actual favorite is the Shut Up 'N' Play Yer Guitar box set is not on the list.

So many great FZ albums here...so many more there wasn't room for!

My fave would be my 1st FZ album, Studio Tan followed by Lather...since neither are on the list, voted YCDTOSA because "Vol 2 The Helsinki Concert" is my fave live FZ album Wink

Cool very nice to have, an original blue verve Us pressing, very hard to find and worth some bucks (just googled and is worth $60 US)
Avoid the updated reissue was done in 1984 with overdubbed drums and bass- refer below- just like the reissue of WOIIFTM- if you like "My Sharona" bass riffs and the like in the mix you might like it !!!!!

"In 1984, Zappa prepared a remix of Cruising with Ruben & the Jets for its compact disc reissue and the vinyl box set The Old Masters I. The remix featured new rhythm tracks recorded by bassist Arthur Barrow and drummer Chad Wackerman, much as the 1984 remix of We're Only in It for the Money had featured. Zappa stated "The master tapes for Ruben and the Jets were in better shape, but since I liked the results on We're Only in it For the Money, I decided to do it on Ruben too. But those are the only two albums on which the original performances were replaced. I thought the important thing was the material itself."["

Got about 40 Zappa vinyl Lp's myself, my fav one is a dutch copy of Mothers Day - a rare compilation double LP of the first 4 MOI LPs

Don't mind Bongo Fury but like you not a great Beefheart fan- got a couple magic band LP's but have never got into them
