hahah.. yeah man.. losing to a 4th tier band.  It hurts man... Imagine how poor ELP fan has felt over the years here haha. f**king Camel indeed

anyhow... I'll take the 4 good albums over the 2 Camel did and the 1 VDGG did.  Easy vote...

Wow, surprised to see Camel on top.
I am confident in picking Van der Graaf Generator here. Honestly, they have a very strong, consistent output, at least 5 great albums (The Least...up to Still Life); even second tier LPs are admirable (World Record, Present). I try be open minded when it comes to taste, but it'd be hard to understand how any conscious listener isn't amazed by Godbluff or Pawn Hearts.
So yes, VdGG is clearly a leader for me, and then I'd pick Gentle Giant. But I enjoy all groups mentioned in this topic.

I think there was a mistake.

Camel reads 34 votes, Gentle Giant 31, Van Der Graaf Generator 29.
34 should read 43, 31 13, and 29 92.
But that is not it, you see 13 is a very unlucky number. You do 31+13=44
PA is acting really weird today but these should be the results: Camel 43, Gentle Giant 44, Van Der Graaf Generator 92.
Sorry for the inconveniences guys.

Gentle Giant is on the same tier as Camel, IMHO. Neither is on the (mainstream acceptance) level of Genesis or Yes. That's not to say they rank lower on MY scale of appreciation.

And yes, I don't remember the last song very well, but it's one I like less, as well as the fourth one. One thing you might have to consider with this band is that you might not be able to get into whole albums, because some tracks are just harder to digest than others, so you might just have to select the ones you like better. At least in order to get into them first.

You know, the more I hear of this band.. you might be right. That was the first album of theirs that I liked all the way through. Even H to He sounded patchy to me. I don't know, I feel like there's something there though. We'll see I guess.

H to HE might actually be my least favourite out of their top albums, or classic line-up (which are actually the only ones I know, I haven't dug deeper). Or at least, that's the one that doesn't have the same highlights as the others (as far as I'm concerned).

I listened to The Least We Can Do.. all the way through today and it was quite good. Wasn't wild about the last song but the song right before it was so good. All in all the most consistent album I've heard so far from them. They're starting to grow on me here. Listening to H to He now..

You certainly could make that case. I, personally, rate them just a hair below Yes and Genesis.

My vote here should be obvious.. although I do love Mirage by Camel(monster album imo). And VdGG I've been getting into a little bit lately, but their stuff seems kind of uneven to me. Some of it is truly beautiful, but then a fair amount is just boring. So yeah, and GG I literally love every single album.

Edit: I would have voted for Caravan over both Camel and VdGG also, but not over Gentle Giant.

Actually my first reviews were in 2004, when Yes and Gensis had under 100 reviews each for their best albums.
I stopped reviewing, as I found it just an opinion based site, not quite to be taken as reference; Still a good site, as there is no other to compare with.
What exactly is preposterous, the fact that I included KC, or the fact that I eliminated Camel?
My musical education, practice (I play 4 instruments, since I was 6 years old) and continuous prog rock listening since 70's (yeah, I am 59) help me understand and know where to look when I apreciate sound.
And, in fact, everyone is entitled of their own opinion.

"As about Camel, even though pleasant and good band, they are on the edge of prog rock, towards easy listening and by far not of the same calibre within the first 20 rock bands." That's what's preposterous. Camel through Rain Dances pretty much (IMHO) established strong prog credentials for the band. Sure, they've gone astray on occasion, pop-wise, but they shouldn't be shunned because of it. I can easily find reaffirming moments in most of their releases, sans Single Factor.
"It just has none of the qualities of your work that I find interesting. Abandon [?] it." - Eno
