Within this group it's a super easy, no hesitation vote for Ian Anderson.

It would seem a drunk Opeth fan is spam voting. Multiple choice polls are a joke.

Pascale Son (Cos)

Kate Bush
Roy Harper
Richard Sinclair
Robert Wyatt
Demetrio Stratos (Area)
Catherine Ribeiro - now that's the most powerful voice in music that actually appeals to me
Damo Suzuki - not because he's a conventionally gifted singer I just like the tone of his voice.

OK, I'm making a new poll - but I'm not sure how to make it dumber than this one (thanks for the suggestions, anyway: I'm glad to see people on PA enjoy voting for polls with the same questions over and over a decade).

I don't think Inga necessarily has the most POWERFUL female voice in prog, more like an unusually low voice.  Not to say her voice isn't powerful by the way, of course it is.

that her voice is so unusually low is one of the reasons why I love it because Friede's voice is unusually low for a woman as well; on the phone she is often mistaken for a man. "Greifswald-Tolleson". "Herr Greifswald-Tolleson, ist ihre Frau zuhause"? "Ich bin Frau Greifswald-Tolleson, und meine Frau ist auch zuhause". "Äh, was"? ("Greifswald-Tolleson". "Mr Greifswald-Tolleson, is your wife at home"? "I am Mrs. Greifswald-Tolleson, and my wife is at home too". "Um, what"?)

Ian Anderson
Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

From that list Anderson ...his early vocals were always solid and he could at least carry a tune unlike another big name up there.
;)

Anyone who doesn't know Inga Rumpf has missed the most powerful female voice there is in prog. 'nuff said.

She was very well known in Germany in the 70s, but her bands Frumpy and Atlantis never made it big outside of Germany.

I picked Ian Anderson, but personally prefer Jon Anderson; I just don't see him on the list.
I use they/them pronouns (feel free to ask me about this!)

Check out my music on my bandcamp!
