The original Tubular Bells - sorry to be so boring and predictable.

(Gentle Bump)

I'll give my vote to.. Amarok, the guts he had to do this makes it all the better. Not an accessible album by any stretch of the imagination. I love it though.

(Also, come on, Platinum deserves better than 0 votes)

I actually love the first half of side two of Tubular Bells just as much as the first side... but once the Caveman comes in, it goes downhill (and then with Popeye it seals my disappointment). Too bad, since the music was going into a very nice crecendo, that seems to be leading to a grand finale just before the Caveman.

I know what you mean. I love Side 1 of Ommadawn, but Side 2 does tend to drag on a bit.

I used to think that Side 2 didn't get going till late but now love all of it, probably more than Side 1.  The crescendo in Band 3 gives me goosebumps, and then a cosmic folk song about horses?  Love it

I've never considered Queen to be a Prog-Rock band either. They've always been an Arena Rock band to me, ever since their storming performance at Wembley for Live Aid in 1985, which has to be the biggest arena of all. Smile

I've not heard them all, but Ommadawn always held my attention the most, I guess. Part 1 in particular is very good.

I also have some affection for the desolate feel of Hergest Ridge.

I would agree Tubular Bells is a masterpiece, especially when you consider how old he was at the time, and how it came together, but I'm not compelled to listen to it very often.

I respect Mike Oldfield more than I enjoy his music, if I'm honest.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

It's so long ago since I posted this thread (October 12th) that I'd forgotten it was my poll. It was posted long before I started assigning points to everyone's Top 5 and Top 10 votes. Smile
